Almost as quickly as employers required almost all knowledge-based employees to work remotely due to the pandemic, those same employers are now pushing those same employees to return to the office either full-time or on a hybrid basis.

But just because employers want you back in the office does not mean that you’re able or willing to go back to the office, or start your first, professional job. You may, for example, prefer to work remotely part or all of the time.

We asked nine experts for ideas for jobs they think are great for remote workers who want to work in business or consumer services.

  • Digital Marketing and Web Development
  • Social Media Management from Anywhere
  • Versatile Virtual Assistant Opportunities
  • Entry-Level Remote Sales and Data Entry

Digital Marketing and Web Development

Having navigated the digital landscape for over 30 years, I’ve seen the rise of remote work firsthand. Three roles stand out for those keen on business or consumer services. First, digital marketing specialists, who can leverage online platforms to drive brand engagement from anywhere.

Second, customer support representatives, offering the personal touch of customer service with no a physical office. Lastly, web developers, like myself, find remote work particularly fitting, as creating and managing websites can be done efficiently from any location, provided there’s internet access, allowing for flexibility and a broad client base.

Social Media Management from Anywhere

A social media manager is responsible for creating and implementing strategies to increase a company’s online presence through various social media platforms. This job can be done remotely, as long as the individual has access to a computer and an internet connection.

Remote social media managers are in high demand as more businesses realize the value of having a strong online presence. They may also have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients in different industries, making the job more diverse and interesting.

Versatile Virtual Assistant Opportunities

The remote work world offers tons of options for business and consumer service enthusiasts! If you’re detail-oriented, consider virtual assistant roles, managing schedules and tasks for busy clients. Tech-savvy individuals can excel in customer service via chat or email, helping customers with product inquiries.

Content creators can craft engaging social media posts or blog articles for businesses, all from the comfort of their homes. Finally, love research? Remote market research positions analyze consumer trends, helping companies understand their audience.

Entry-Level Remote Sales and Data Entry

There are so many entry-level sales jobs available that can lead to other opportunities within the company or at other companies. Sales skills will benefit you no matter what future role you see yourself in!

Similar to sales, this is a foot-in-the-door opportunity that can help you land other roles within a company and build good skills.

A job that can be done remotely with ease while still helping you build professional skills and connections.

Marketing, Success Management, and Assistance

Digital Marketing Specialists, Customer Success Managers, and Virtual Assistants are suitable professions for remote workers in business or consumer services. Digital Marketing Specialists use online techniques to drive brand growth, making them appealing to those who are creative as well as analytical.

Customer Success Managers are ideal for people with great communication and problem-solving skills, as they play an important role in client happiness and retention. Virtual Assistants provide remote administrative support and are best suited for well-organized and versatile individuals. These professions not only provide the flexibility of remote work but also cater to a wide range of skill sets, making them appealing possibilities in an ever-changing job market.

Optimization, Coordination, and Content Creation

From my experience in customer service, leading OneStop Northwest LLC, and spearheading comprehensive digital marketing services, I can offer insights into the ideal jobs for remote workers in business or consumer services. The digital landscape has cultivated a fertile ground for varied roles that thrive in a remote setting, contributing significantly to a business’s success from virtually anywhere.

Web Optimization Specialists stand as a prime example. In my journey to build OneStop Northwest into a one-stop shop for business needs, I’ve seen the indispensable value that web optimization specialists bring to the table. They are the maestros behind enhancing website visibility and user engagement, crucial for any business venturing online. This role requires a blend of analytical thinking, creativity, and a deep understanding of SEO and web analytics tools—all of which can be effectively managed remotely. Moreover, their ability to drive website traffic and improve search rankings directly from their homes showcases the potential of remote work in delivering substantial business outcomes.

Project Management Coordinators in the digital services sphere also excel in a remote environment. Based on the shift towards digital project management tools and software I’ve observed and implemented, these coordinators adeptly streamline operations, ensuring projects run smoothly, on time, and within budget. The beauty of this role is its reliance on digital tools and communication platforms, making physical location irrelevant. By managing tasks, resources, and team communication remotely, they keep the wheels turning efficiently, proving that the backbone of project management can exist outside traditional office spaces.

Lastly, Content Creators and Strategists are perfectly suited for remote work within the business or consumer services sectors. From my efforts to provide comprehensive digital marketing solutions, content creation stands as a cornerstone of digital marketing strategies. Whether it’s crafting blog posts, designing graphics, or producing videos, these creatives bring stories to life, engaging audiences and building brand awareness from wherever they please. Their need for a conducive creative space over a conventional office setup aligns well with the flexibility of remote work, allowing them to produce compelling content that captures the essence of a brand.

These roles highlight the versatility and effectiveness of remote work in the business.

Customer Service and Digital Marketing Flexibility

In my view, ideal remote jobs include Customer Service Representatives, who ensure client satisfaction from anywhere; Digital Marketing Specialists, who boost brands online from home; and Virtual Assistants, offering diverse support remotely. These roles capitalize on digital advantages, offering professionals flexibility and autonomy in their careers.

Analyzing Markets and Developing Business Remotely

Business and consumer services have numerous untapped opportunities that extend beyond the common roles typically associated with remote employment.

Remote market research analysts play a unified role in collecting and discerning data to provide insights on consumer behavior and market trends. This position is integral in shaping strategic business decisions.

Maintaining an excellent social media presence is imperative for businesses to engage and retain consumers. They often operate remotely and implement strategies across platforms to boost brand visibility and foster loyalty.

Tasked with driving business growth, remote business development representatives focus on identifying new leads, establishing strategic partnerships, and maintaining client relationships.

Sales, Service, and Virtual HR Specialization

Companies are increasingly hiring remote sales representatives to reach customers and drive growth. In this role, you’ll be responsible for prospecting leads, conducting presentations, and closing sales. Strong communication, persuasion, and time-management skills are crucial.

Many organizations now offer remote customer service roles. As a remote customer service representative, you’ll address customer inquiries, complaints, and support issues through phone, email, or social media. Problem-solving and strong communication skills are essential to ensure a positive customer experience.

As a virtual HR specialist, you’ll be tasked with sourcing and screening candidates, conducting virtual interviews, onboarding new hires, and supporting overall HR functions like employee relations and compliance. Organizational skills, knowledge of HR best practices, and the ability to build relationships are key requirements for success.
